Hatha
Yoga
Hatha Yoga arose out of the spiritual and medical culture of Hindu/Buddhist
India. It is essentially a practical and experiential discipline
accessable
for anyone to start; subtler aspects become clearer with practice.
The
various styles of Hatha Yoga all generally include Asanas (postures),
Pranayama (breathing practices) and relaxation and meditation practices.
It
can be seen as a set of tools to be selected from according to individual
needs and interests.
The arrival of Yoga in the West over the last few decades has meant
that its
benefits have been investigated by people from both medical and
fitness
professions. Some Eastern terminology does not always translate
easily to
the West, but despite this it is clear that Yoga has many benefits
understandable in western terminology including :
Stress Release and Education.
Increased sense of wellbeing.
Increased energy and vitality.
Rebalancing of the muscular skeletal system.
Core strength and Flexibility.
Improved Breathing Patterns.
Classes vary in their approach and if you have any concerns about
your
health it is wise to check with a Health Professional to see if
Yoga is
suitable for your condition; and to check with a Yoga teacher to
find an
appropriate class.
